Avoid Deep Discharging
Frequently draining your battery has the same effects as overcharging. This can cause permanent damage to the cells and decrease the car battery lifespan.
Leaving the battery life at a low percentage for a longer period also contributes to battery life degradation.
Refrain From Fast Chargers
Nowadays it is inevitable to use a top-up in a hurry, boost your car battery lifespan to 80% in a short period and go on with your daily activities. However, you must avoid fast chargers as much as possible.
Each time you put the battery on a fast charger, a little bit of the battery lifespan is taken away.
Even though this may not seem significant at the moment, using a normal charge could benefit you in the long-run. More specifically, it will add a few years to your EV’s battery lifespan.
Stick to Cooler Temperatures
The lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to high temperatures. Even though electric vehicles are designed with a built-in thermal management system to regulate the temperature and cool the batteries off, sometimes this is just not enough.
Make sure to take additional preventive measures such as parking the vehicle in the shade, in a garage or a carport.
